Let Them Eat Cry9C

12/11/00
The NY Times recently made some of us look like gifted prophets while others are gifted with profits. The Times tells the story of the difficulties facing the Agro Industry getting Cry9C (StarLink Corn) out of the world's food supply. The likely solution is that the FDA will approve Cry9C for human consumption for four years. [Note: In the time since I originally wrote this, it appears the request to temporarily approve StarLink for human consumption has been denied.] The food supply systems are so contaminated with this genetically engineered product, it will likely take four years to clean up. This could present trouble for US food products in Europe and Japan. Of course, the World Trade Organization could probably rule those consumer protections in Japan and Europe as barriers to trade. I hope you're not allergic to Cry9C.

For my veghead friends, would you like a little Roundup Ready soy milk in your latte?
